• Backup kicker leaves team

Penn State backup kicker Matt Marcincin has left the team for personal reasons, according to several reports Thursday.

Marcincin, a 5-11, 182-pound redshirt freshman from Bethlehem, was the No. 2 kicker behind Sam Ficken, who missed 4-of-5 field goals last week in a 17-16 loss at Virginia.

Marcincin, a walk-on, did not see action at Penn State. He also was a backup punter behind Alex Butterworth.

Penn State coach Bill O’Brien was not asked about Marcincin during his weekly radio show Thursday night.

On another topic, O’Brien said someone who hasn’t run the football yet this year will do so Saturday against Navy. That could mean quarterback Paul Jones in an option package or true freshman Akeel Lynch.
