• Live Blog: Penn State vs. Michigan

    It’s senior day for the Nittany Lions as the Michigan Wolverines are in Happy Valley. It is also the annual white out game. Penn State is looking to go undefeated at home and improve to 8-3 on the season with a looming matchup at Michigan State next weekend. Follow along for live updates.

    First Quarter

    14:55: Christian Hackenberg and the offense take the field on their own 21-yard line to start the game.

    13:48: Hackenberg makes a great check out of first play and hands off to RB Saquon Barkley for a 56-yard pickup. Nine yards from the goal line.

    11:09: SCORE – Tyler Davis kicks a field goal to give the Lions a 3-0 lead. Conservative play calls on the goal line lead to a field goal instead of a touchdown.

    7:43: TOUCHDOWN – Michigan answers Penn State’s score with a touchdown toss to tight end Jake Butt. Rudock had all day to throw and a nice route combo opened up the field around the 5-yard line. Wolverines up 7-3.

    6:19: After trading penalties, Hackenberg fired a strike to TE Kyle Carter, who got hands on it but couldn’t pull in the hard throw. Nice effort both on the throw and attempt of a catch.

    4:38: Penn State with back-to-back impressive plays. DE Torrence Brown rocks Rudock for a sack and LB Brandon Bell picks the QB off on the next.

    3:45: The offense stalls and is forced to punt. Daniel Pasquariello punts and it is downed on the 9-yard line.

    0:00: Michigan is driving at the end of the first quarter and holds a 7-3 lead.

    Second Quarter

    12:27: Penalties killing Michigan so far. Three offsides and holding penalty on the defense just called to extend the Penn State drive.

    10:35: Hackenberg tests Jourdan Lewis with a deep throw to WR Chris Godwin. Lewis falls down, but Godwin can’t reel it in in the end zone. Fans wanted an interference call.

    7:28: Michigan moving the ball consistently, methodically today. Mixing in the short passes and the runs well. The Wolverines hace 3rd and 2 around their own 40. Penn State timeout.

    7:24: Big pass breakup by safety Troy Apke. Michigan punts to the Penn State 19. Offense back out to see if it can get something going.

    5:09: Penn State cannot block Michigan’s defensive line. Another stalled drive forces another punt. It goes for 37 yards.

    4:15: Penn State with a nice defensive series. LB Von Walker blocks the punt. CB Grant Haley tips a pass to deflect it out of bounds and pressure forces Rudock to throw incompletion on two previous plays.

    3:09: TE Mike Gesicki catches a pass for Penn State’s first third-down conversion of the day.

    2:01: TOUCHDOWN – WR Saeed Blacknall catches his second-career touchdown pass on a long lob from Hackenberg. A nice route adjustment as he came back and brought it down in front of CB Jabrill Peppers, who seemed to lose it in the air. Lions up 10-7.

    1:30: Penn State defensive line is getting to Rudock, but the Michigan offense is still moving. Short passes and missed tackles killing the Lions.

    0:51: TOUCHDOWN – Michigan answers right back with a screen pass on the goal line that goes for a score. Short passes are working for the Wolverines so far. Big momentum deflator. Michigan up 14-10 now. Wolverines receive the ball first in the second half.

    0:00: Penn State runs out the clock and the Lions head into the locker room down by four, 14-10 at the half.

    Third Quarter

    11:16: Rudock is carving up the Penn State defense with short, effective passes. Missed tackles continue to plague the Lions.

    10:11: Penn State gets bailed out on a bad punt with a block in the back call against the Wolverines. Michigan will start on its own 33.

    6:07: TOUCHDOWN – Michigan punches it in from one yard out after Penn State coughed up the ball on a punt deep in Wolverines territory. Michigan takes a 21-10 lead.

    1:19: PSU LB Brandon Bell with a strip sack and recovery. PSU back on offense around midfield.

    0:00: Penn State ends the quarter on a high note, as Hackenberg connects with Godwin to convert on fourth down to put the Lions in scoring position. Michigan still up 21-10.

    Fourth Quarter

    14:02: SCORE – Davis hits a 23-yard field goal to cut the deficit. Michigan leads 21-13 now.

    12:29: WR Greg Garrity Jr. fields the punt for the Lions. Penn State offense will start on its own 37.

    11:16: 12 penalties called on Michigan for 102 yards.

    10:42: 13 penalties for 117 yards now.

    9:16: Hackenberg carries for a first down. Impressive run. Lions knocking on the door for another touchdown.

    9:11: Barkley made a leaping grab to keep the ball moving. On the goal line now.

    8:09: SCORE – Davis hits an 18-yard field goal. Michigan leads, 21-16.

    5:12: TOUCHDOWN – Michigan dives over the line for a score. 28-16 Michigan now.

    2:28: Hackenberg has taken a beating all day. Michigan has the ball now, running out the clock as much as it can.
